Sam Pinto, FHM Philippines' Sexiest Woman for 2011, used to be a Kapamilya before moving to Kapuso GMA-7 network. It's a good move though I'd say. She'll definitely shine more in another network. Sam was linked to Gerald Anderson when they worked on a project, which of course incurred the ire of Kimerald fans back then. She starred in "Captain Barbell Ang Pagbabalik," "Spooky Nights Presents," and movie "Tween Academy: Class of 2012."

Liezel Garcia

Liezel Garcia was my bet to win, or at the very least place third, during their stint at the Pinoy Dream Academy 2. I remember she was a consistent weekly placer that time. She clearly has the talent and the singing voice. I was disappointed when she only finished fourth. I hope that Liezel would be given more breaks by her mother studio. But I'm quite happy that her single "Gisingin Ang Puso" is the soundtrack of Koreanovela "Pure Love" (49 Days).

Nikki Valdez and Beauty Gonzalez

Nikki Valdez is a familiar face on local TV as well as the big screen. A homegrown talent of ABS-CBN Kapamilya channel. She took a hiatus when she got married and had a baby. Now she's back and has appeared on "Imortal." She co-stars with Vice Ganda in his upcoming movie "Praybeyt Benjamin." I love the short hair and she looks absolutely fabulous in this picture. Beauty Gonzalez is the 4th grand placer of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus. I remember watching her on "Alyna" where she played the role of Shaina's best friend. That was actually a good role and showed her comedic side. Just like Nikki V., I like her short hair. (Star Magic Ball 2010)

Helga Krapf and Isabelle Abiera/Max Collins

Helga Krapf has been around ABS-CBN Kapamilya network since Star Circle Quest days. Although she didn't bag any major win during that time, she's been seen around TV shows playing second lead and sometimes even antagonist roles. Helga was seen escorted by JM De Guzman in this year's Star Magic Ball. Her other photo was taken last year. I wonder when this pretty lass will be given more attention.

The artist formerly known as Isabelle Abiera has now returned as Max Collins. Max is now under the care of PPL Entertainment Inc. Like Helga, she's also starred on various TV shows in the Kapamilya network. This time around, she is relaunching her career under a new manager and network. I hope she will shine this time around.

Jodi Sta. Maria

Star Magic Ball 2011

Jodi Sta. Maria is truly one of the finest actresses that I enjoy watching on TV. Gone are the teeny bopper days and emerged is a really great actress who truly deserves an acting award. I remember her striking performances on "Walang Kapalit" with Claudine Barretto and Piolo Pascual and "Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara" as the vengeful ghost of Ruth. Currently, it is good to see Jodi back playing Sophia on "100 Days."

Pokwang

I think comediennes like Pokwang have all the fun! They get to be funny yet dress up to be elegant as the rest of the belles of the ball! I actually like her sense of style and the funny get ups she would have on her daily noontime show. There truly is never a dull moment when Pokwang is around.

Kaye Abad

It's good to see Kaye Abad make a comeback after quite some time. I liked her character Pepper on Precious Hearts Romances. I wonder what happened to the Kaye Abad - Guji Lorenzana loveteam that was cooked up as a result of the romance series? KayJi as the tandem is fondly called should make another comeback. I think the last time I watched Kaye was as antagonist to Shaina Magdayao on Alyna. I think she did a great job there and hope she'll be given more challenging projects.

Bangs Garcia and Desiree del Valle

Bangs Garcia was launched in "Palos" to complete the love triangle with Jake Cuenca and Roxanne Guinoo. It was talked about then as Roxanne apparently got jealous of her and even referred to her as "that girl." Anyway, we all know how that turned out. Bangs did a good job as antagonist to Cristine Reyes on "Kristine." She's pretty sexy too. We do need more antagonists who look good.

Desiree del Valle is usually cast as an antagonist in most TV shows. She actually plays the role too well. She's part of the cast of "Nasaan Ka Elisa?" (remake of a foreign telenovela) as a detective. Perhaps this time around, she doesn't get to play the bad guy -- or gal for that matter.

Denise Laurel

 

Denise Laurel is one kapamilya star whom I missed when her character Emerald suddenly left the tv show "Kristine" where she starred with leading man Rafael Rosell. I kinda like their tandem since the two were paired in previous Precious Heart romances episodes. There was speculation that Denise was pregnant so she left. All was quiet till she came back and admitted to having a child. Now she's back. Hopefully, her tandem with Rafael will be revived. ^_^

Before the Precious Heart romances were shown, stars like Denise had to wait for their break. There were clearly too many lead stars. In a way, it's good that we see lots of newer and younger stars being given a break these days.Denise was in a Close Up commercial and was paired with Sam Milby. She was even linked to him for a while. She was also involved in a picture scandal where her top sort of fell off when she was in a pool.

Jessy Mendiola

I remember Jessy Mendiola from a Jollibee commercial. She then later on starred opposite Enchong Dee on "Boystown" (a remake of the original 80's movie). Jessy  also starred opposite Coco Martin on "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo" as his love interest. This improved her acting as she stood out in the remake of "Gimik" (the next generation).

Jessy was launched into stardom when she became the lead role in "Sabel" starring with the late AJ Perez and Joseph Marco.

Wow for Jessy's look here. She does look more grown up in this year's Star Magic Ball. I wonder what her next project would be. Plus, she's now being compared to Kristine Hermosa in terms of beauty. Is she going to be given more daring and mature roles after "Sabel"?

Maricar Reyes

I can't help but think that Maricar Reyes is a kapamilya favorite. Since she was discovered and launched, and later on got caught in a sex video scandal, Maricar is hardly absent from tv or movie projects. She has kept mum about the scandal issue and it seemed to turn to her favor. Anyway, I think she's a talented actress.

I may not have liked Maricar's role in "Lovers in Paris" remake as Karen, but I did like her Samantha character on "Immortal." I think she stood out in her performance there. I was sorry they had to kill off her character towards the end.

Maricar's first attendance at Star Magic Ball. Her guesting role on "Betty la Fea" remake paved the way for her movie and tv appearances, but I believe it was the video scandal that made people pay more attention to her. A few years down the line, perhaps not many would remember it anymore. It will be good to watch Maricar as one of the lead characters in any project.

Empress Schuck

Here is another kapamilya princess who was launched in "Rosalka" last year. It's none other than Empress Schuck seen here with new leading man E-jay Falcon on recently concluded "Guns & Roses." Empress has indeed come this far since playing child roles in various movie and tv projects. I wonder what her next project would be.

Melissa Ricks

Has Melissa Ricks gone daring? Well her latest tv show, an adaptation of the Chilean telenovela, ¿Dónde está Elisa?, surely shows a more mature and daring Melissa. It seemed just like yesterday when she came out as one of top 5 Star Circle Questors when she was just 14. She was talked about more recently because of her break up with boyfriend Jake Cuenca. The two have kept mum about their relationship until the break up. Melissa was escorted to the Star Magic Ball by former love team Matt Evans. Will the two be paired up again?

Shaina Magdayao

The star of Alyna, Shaina Magdaya, looked alluring in her red gown during the Star Magic Ball this year. It has been some months since her 'telenovela' ended. We have yet to hear about her next project. I suppose she's taking it a bit easy after she and boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz have been involved in some scandalous and malicious gossip.

This is the second Star Magic ball that Shaina is escorted by her boyfriend. Amidst a lot of speculation of their relationship being on the rocks, it is good to see they're still together. Last year, the couple indeed looked fabulous.

Back in 2009, Shaina was escorted by then boyfriend John Pratts. The two have since moved on to new relationships. Shaina is now with John Lloyd, and John  P. is rumored to be courting "Happy Yipee Yehey" co-host Bianca Manalo, former representative to the Ms. Universe Pageant in 2009.

Yeng Constantino

I find Yeng Constantino's fashion sense to be different. I actually admire her punk and sense of style. She dares to be different and stands out. Besides, this pop rock princess is truly talented. She totally rocks! ^_^

Yeng looked a bit more traditional in last year's ball. I don't know why but I seem to prefer seeing her look unique and her fashion style stand out. I certainly won't mind seeing her in fashion forward outfit! After all, she is a rocker chick!

'Tis the first time I saw Yeng sport a fashion forward outfit. I don't think it was received so well back in 2009. Perhaps that was why she opted for a more traditional look the year after. I'm glad though that she's back in her signature style in this year's ball. 

I wonder what's her next tv project aside from ASAP Rocks. I used to watch Music Uplate Live because of Yeng. She totally rocks and I like her music!

Erich Gonzales

Erich Gonzales is the grand winner of the second batch of the Star Circle Quest back in 2005. This lass from Davao has indeed come a long way since she was also catapulted to stardom for her role in "Katorse" where she played a teenage mom. She has starred in a few other tv shows and currently portrays the lead role in "Maria del Barrio" -- a remake of the Mexican telenovela originally played by Thalia. Erich definitely looks stunning in her red gown.

Here is Erich in last year's ball. Her black gown looks simply stunning, but I think red looks better on her. Erich used to play second fiddle to Kim Chiu and other stars before finally making her way to stardom. By a stroke of luck, her tandem with leading man Enchong Dee really clicked; thus making both of them promising lead stars. They even starred in the movie "I Do."

Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes

The remake of "Mara Clara" somehow catapulted both Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes into stardom. I would say they're the latest Kapamilya teen princesses. Will they be the next Claudine Barretto - Judy Ann Santos? The two recently starred in a family drama "Way Back Home."

I found this picture from last year's ball featuring Kathryn Bernardo with her fellow teen stars, Miles Ocampo and John Manalo. Kathryn is most definitely a bigger star now that she played the role of Mara, formerly portrayed by young superstar Judy Ann Santos.

Angelica Panganiban

Angelica Panganiban was pretty controversial for a while having been involved in an issue with Claudine Barretto. Now it seems both camps are quiet. I would consider Angelica as one of the most versatile actresses in Philippine showbiz. She's great in both comedy and dramatic roles. But I particularly liked her in "Ruby."

Angelica looked just as stunning in last year's Star Magic ball, although I didn't quite like her gown. Nonetheless, it was different compared to the other lovely gowns of the other belles of the ball. Black seems to be the main theme of last year's ball as a good number of the ladies who attended wore black too. That's Derek Ramsey, Angelica's beau looking on while Angel gets photographed.

Toni Gonzaga

Although she is not a Star Magic talent, it is good to see Toni Gonzaga graze the Star Magic Ball with director boyfriend Paul Soriano. Toni is the SM Cinema's Box-Office Queen for 2011 for her movie with John Lloyd Cruz entitled "My Amnesia Girl." She is currently one of the hosts of the daily noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey" and joins "The Buzz" celebrity talk show on Sundays.

Maja Salvador

There's no doubt that Maja Salvador is the news maker in this year's Star Magic Ball, after TV leading man Coco Martin and beau Matteo Guidicelli had an altercation that ended sourly after the ball. Apparently it was due to a jealousy issue between the two men who are being linked to Maja. Matteo has apologized via national TV and so for now it seems all is well.

Maja Salvador belongs to a family of well-known actors and actresses. She has apparently inherited the acting prowess of her famous relatives as I have admired her acting skills since I have watched her act alongside Star for all Season s and Batangas Governor Vilma Santos. It was a younger Maja then who portrayed the role of a differently-abled daughter to Vilma. Her TV series has just ended and she starred in an indie film called "Thelma" which was directed by Paul Soriano.
